The Central Carolina Children's Chorus offers different level chorus programs to meet the needs of our children and youth. Our chorus program offers choirs for singers ages 8 - 18, and now a preparatory class for children in Kindergarten and first grade.
NEW CLASS for Kindergarten - 1st Grade: Music Makers This new class is beginning in mid-January and is open to young children from Kindergarten and First Grade. It will include basic musical instruction in rhythm activities, pitch-matching, movement, and playing instruments. It is not performance-based, but will include three "Parent Nights" per season, where class members share their music with parents. In addition, the class may perform a song in our Christmas and Spring Concerts.
Music Makers will use an Orff Method of musical instruction, which includes basic folk songs, seasonal songs, and simple melodies. It also uses instruction on Orff rhythm instruments (xylophones, metallophones, drums, etc.). We are very excited about the possibilities of this new class to help meet the needs of our younger "Music Makers." At the end of the first grade year, rising second graders are eligible to graduate up into the UPBEAT! Choir for the next season that begins the following September. Class size is limited.
UPBEAT! - Training Choir The purpose of the training choir is to introduce young singers to choral music through vocal discovery, music-reading activities, and light performance opportunities.
UPBEAT! is a non-auditioned group of young singers. Membership is available to children in the 2nd, 3rd, & *4th grades, interested in learning how to sing in a positive, educational setting. They will have the opportunity to bond as a Community of Singers through classroom and social experiences, as well as outside performing experiences.
*4th grade singers with previous musical instruction and singing experience may be eligible to audition for the Central Carolina Children’s Chorus Intermediate Choir.
UPBEAT! will introduce choral & general music through classroom activities. Activities include: Singing, basic music-reading skills, games, movement, and rhythm instruments. Music from all styles and periods are used, including Classical, folk, gospel, spirituals, and patriotic, as well as music of different cultures and languages.
UPBEAT! is also a prelude to membership in the auditioned Central Carolina Children’s Chorus.
CCCC Chorale The main body of our organization is the Chorale, consisting of 4th - 8th grade singers. The Chorale provides group vocal instruction, basic musicianship, and uses music from all styles and periods that form the foundation for musical learning and serves as the basis for the curriculum. Musical concepts—melody, harmony, timbre, dynamics, form, style, and performance practice—that are taught in the rehearsals. Included are musical skills, such as singing, theory, sight reading (including solfege), etc. These concepts and skills are taught through a singing-based curriculum, listening, and analysis.
ENCORE - Advanced Choir Geared for older and more experienced singers/musicians. Open to 8th - 12th grade singers, both girls and boys with changed voices. Encore takes the choir experience to another level, providing leadership and mentoring to the younger groups, as well as providing additional higher-level musical experiences for the singers. More responsibility is given to each member, both musically, and within chorus. Note: 8th grade singers with no prior experience are required to sing in the Chorale for one season before moving up into ENCORE.
